We are using this medium to inform all individuals and the general public that they can now link their National Identity Number (NIN) on all Mobile Networks in Nigeria (MTN, Airtel, Glo & 9mobile) using the outlined procedures on their various mobile devices.
Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had directed all individuals who are Nigerian Citizens to link get their NIN and link the number to their mobile networks SIM cards, they had also directed all telecommunication operators to block all SIM cards that are not registered or linked with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

How to Link your NIMC National Identification Number (NIN) on MTN, Airtel, GLO & ETISALAT (9mobile) via USSD & Online
a. MTN
Mtn users can link their NIN to their line in any of these three ways
- Online registration portal via https://mtnonline.com/nin
- USSD code: Dial *785# or
- Via myMTNApp, get it on Google Play or Apple Store
- Complete the NIN linking form by entering your name, phone number, NIN, and email address.
- Submit the form as soon as you’re done.
- Wait for feedback from the network.
NB:
To link your National Identification Number (NIN) with your SIM registration data online, you have to submit your NIN and phone number.
Note that NINs submitted here will be received as unverified, pending validation against the NIMC database. This means you may be required to re-validate this information in person, in the future. Thank you!

Q. What is a NIN?
A. The National Identification Number (NIN) is the unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian, and is issued to you upon enrollment by NIMC (the National Identity Management Commission). It is used to match your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication.

Q. How do I register for NIN?
A. You can register in any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of all enrollment centers nationwide.
Q. How do I confirm my NIN number?
A. You can check your NIN Slip, it has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, on the second row. You can also dial *346# and press 1, please note that you may be charged 20 naira.
Q. I have a NIN. What next should I do?
A. Please provide us with your NIN, for further validation with NIMC. You can do this easily by dialing *785# free of charge and following the prompts. You can also submit your NIN to us on myMTN app.
After your NIN has been submitted, we will begin the process of verification with the NIMC. If your NIN is verified, we will link it to your MTN SIM registration, and you may not need to do anything further. If it is not possible to verify the NIN you have submitted, then you may need to visit an enrolment centre, in person.
We will provide further information of the status of your NIN verification as soon as possible.
Q: I can see my NIN on my phone after dialing *346#, will my line still be blocked ?
A. All Customers are obligated to submit their NIN to their service provider; once the NIN you have submitted has been verified successfully with NIMC, your verified NIN will be linked with your SIM registration.
According to the NCC directive, lines not linked with their NIN before 30th December 2020, will be blocked.

A. No please, an error message will pop up on your phone to indicate that the transaction was not successful

A: Yes, the USSD code works for all networks. However, if you have registered for a NIN and you keep getting an error message, please dial your service provider help line. Q. I have lost my NIN slip, how can I obtain another one?
A. Sorry about the loss of your NIN slip, kindly visit any bank around you, pay a token of N500 through REMITA, provide your REMITA Teller to any ERC near you and request for a NIN slip print.
Q: Will my line be blocked if my NIN is not captured?
A: Yes. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications operators to block all lines not paired with NIN Number by December 30th 2020.
Q: I was able to view my NIN number on my bank app, why is MTN charging me N20?
A: *346# is currently a billable service offered by the National Identity Management Commission. An adviCe of charge, and a confirmatory notification will be sent to you upon dialing the code. The USSD code works for all networks. If the *346# NIMC service charges are waived in the future, we are sure NIMC will inform all users.
Q: My SIM was registered with my voter card, and not national card. Am I going to be affected?
A: This directive is to all citizens of Nigeria who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must be paired with your SIM Registration details.

Q: How do I get notified when my NIN is ready after enrolment?
A: The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will communicate this to you after your enrollment.

A: No, you cannot. Everybody is to enroll for their NIN individually. It is a personal Identity Number

- Visit the online registration link via www.airtel.com.ng/nin or
- Dial *121*1# on your Airtel line to submit your NIN
- Type 1 for “NIN Capture” and send.
- Enter your 11-digit NIN and send.
- Wait for the message confirming your submission. If you get an error, just wait for some time and try again.
c. ETISALAT (9mobile)
For 9mobile users;- Visit 9mobile.com.ng/nin
- Click on ‘Verify and Link your NIN now’
- Fill the required information and submit
- 9mobile USSD link code will be announced as soon as it is available
d. GLO
Glo users can adopt any of these methods to link their NIN number;- Visit the online registration portal via www.gloworld.com/ng/nin to fill your information and link. Or
- By SMS – type UPDATENIN followed by NIN number followed by Firstname followed by Lastname and send to 109, using the phone number you wish to link (e.g UPDATENIN 12341234123 Amaka Samuel).
