2021 WAEC GCE Result Statistics: West African Examination Council [WAEC] Results Statistics for the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) For Private Candidates (GCE) Second (2nd) Series August/September Examination 48.61% Obtained 5 Credits Including English & Maths.

Shortly after releasing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) For Private Candidates Second (2nd) Series August/September Results the West African Examination Council [WAEC] has also published the results statistics for the just concluded examination.


According to Head of the Nigeria National Office, WAEC, Mr Patrick Areghan, the analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates shows that out of the Fifty One Thousand Four Hundred and Fourty-Four (51,444) candidates that sat the examination:


Thirty-Two Thousand Six Hundred and Thirty-Seven (32,637) candidates representing 63.44 per cent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects (with or without English Language and/or Mathematics; out of which Fifteen Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Two (15,832) were male and Sixteen Thousand Eight Hundred and Five (16,805) were female candidates, representing 48.5%and 51.5% respectively;


Twenty Five Thousand and Eight (25,008) candidates representing 48.61 per cent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Of this number, Twelve Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy-Two (12,272) i.e. 49.1 per cent were male candidates, while Twelve Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty-Six (12,736) i.e. 50.92 per cent were female candidates. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019 and 2020, that is, those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, were 35.99 per cent and 39.82 per cent respectively. Thus, there is a marginal increase of 8.79 per cent in performance in this regards.”



Speaking about what to come, Mr Areghan said WAEC will soon introduce what is called digitised certificates where candidates and end-users view and access candidates’ original certificates on their electronic gadgets, thus eliminating fake certificates and ensuring easy access.

“EDUSAT is also an innovation that will enable researchers and all stakeholders’ access to results’ statistical analysis in any nature and format, online,” Mr Areghan said.

The HNO also announced that WAEC will be celebrating its 70th anniversary in Abuja from March 14-18, 2022 during its annual Council meeting.

“All the member countries will be joining online while the Nigerian delegates will be attending physically,” he said. 


Candidates who sat for the examination are free to check the details of their performance on the council’s result website

The result checker PIN and serial number needed by them to check their results online are contained on the candidate’s photo card obtained during the registration for the examination or they can easily purchase the result checker pin via remita online
