Abia State University (ABSU) Matriculates / Admits Six Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty-Seven (6,467) Students at their 39th Matriculation Ceremony for 2020/2021 Academic Session.


No fewer than 6,467 Students were Matriculated during the Abia State University 39th Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday 13th August, 2021 for 2020/2021 Academic Session.

The Abia State University (ABSU) has admitted a total number of 6,467 (six thousand, four hundred and sixty seven) students into different programmes of the University for the 2020/2021 academic session.

In his address during the ceremony at the University pavilion, the Vice Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, urged the students to work hard in order to excel and enhance the University's reputation as a center of excellence and service.

Professor Ogbulu while congratulating the students for gaining admission into a world class University like ABSU, reminded them that their admission is provisional, and anytime they are found wanting in character or conduct, or perhaps, it is discovered that the certificate they used in gaining admission is not genuine, the University have no choice than to expel any of such students found wanting.

He therefore warned them against all forms of cultism, examination malpractise, indecent dressing or any act, that contravenes the University's extant rules and regulations, and encouraged the students to discharge themselves creditabily in their academics and conducts so as to excel and enjoy the benefits of acquiring quality education.

According to him, " Our graduates are major players in the national and global 21st socio-economic activities. They are highly skilled and exhibit exceptional competence in their various professions".

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, used the forum, to thank the Abia State Governor and Visitor to Abia State University, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D for his unprecedented support to his administration and the University at large, the Hon. Chancellor, His Royal Majesty, Begha U Tiv Oreivirgh Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, Chairman, Benue State Traditional Rulers Council, and the Pro-Chancellor, and Chairman, Governing Council, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D, for their exemplary leadership and guidance in running a tertiary institution like Abia State University.

Earlier in a homily, Venerable Ugochukwu Ihechukwu, admonished the students to seek God first, as they strive to achieve their ambitions in life, and prayed for God's protection on their behalf and also for the entire University.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the administration of the Matriculation oath to them by the Registrar, Dr Acho Elendu, and the admission of the students fully into the University according to their Faculties by the Vice-Chancellor.

The event attracted some members of the Governing Council, members of University management, Senate Members, academics from other Universities, representative of JAMB Registrar, as well as parents, guardians and friends of the Matriculating students.
